The Alpinists

Editing Workshop II
3rd June 2023

The Plan

We will meet at 9:30 in Rapperswil in our Alpinists workshop rooms. After getting to know each other we start right into the topic:
Learn how to edit pictures the way we do, or rather, learn how to use Lightroom Classic CC by Adobe and find your own style!
In the 5 hours we will be spending together with you, we will not only share our knowledge we’ve gained the last couple of years being Switzerland’s biggest photographers collective, but also move into action after having lunch and create our own preset together.
The workshop is suitable for beginners as we will learn about image editing and Lightroom from scratch. It is also suitable for advanced photographers as you can always learn something by watching someone else edit.

What we can offer you

In addition to live editing with one of our images, we will look at the following:

– RAW and JPG format explained
– Editing examples of RAW and JPG
– How is Lightroom structured?
– File management and import of your pictures
– Cropping & Straightening the horizon
– Optical corrections & scaling an image
– Basic tools in detail (exposure/clarity/black and white)
– Sharpening
– Noise & ISO noise reduction
– Creating quick base presets
– Learning and using Selective Brushes
– Stitching Panoramas
– Creating Virtual copies
– retouch & Repair disturbing objects
– Create your own preset
– Image formats (JPEG, TIFF, DNG, etc.)
– Exporting with templates
– Lightroom Mobile

Of course, we will always be happy to answer any questions you bring with you or that arise during the workshop.
Our goal is that by the end of the workshop you will know and be able to use the common and most important features of Lightroom. You will also bring home your very own preset as well as two base presets.

We are excited to get to know you and give you a look behind the scenes of The Alpinists’ editing their pictures.

    Frequently asked questions

What level of photography is required?

The workshop is open to all levels of experience. The only thing we ask is that you bring passion, energy and the drive to be out in the field every day no matter what the weather is like.

    What should I bring?

We will send out a clothing list before the trip. We recommend that you layer up! Bring comfortable clothes for sunny days and layers for when it’s colder such as in the morning and evening. A rain jacket, preferably Gore-tex and a wool underlayer will help when shooting after sunset. Merino socks and hiking boots are your best friend. As the saying goes “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”. Temperatures during the day could hit over 20 degrees Celsius and on an evening in the mountains approach 0 degrees Celsius.

What are the required fitness conditions?

During this workshop we will have to carry the camera equipment as well as clothes, food and water for smaller hikes. It should be doable for all fitness levels as we can plan enough time and adapt the route.

    Where will we be staying?

    Hotel

    Can I bring a drone?

Of course! Please only use your drone where it is allowed to do so. We would recommend bringing a DJI Mavic sized drone to give you a smooth travel experience. If you are interested we can show you the basics of aerial photo- and videography.

What and where will we eat?

We will eat dinner and breakfast in the mountain lodges. Where and how to eat lunch is up to you.

    What about Corona?

We will follow the Swiss government’s advisories. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the entire workshop.
