The Alpinists

The Plan

The goal of the workshop is to introduce you to our photography workflow from planning tours, to shooting unique photos and post-processing them in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. We will also touch on topics such as business opportunities as photographers and guidance regarding Instagram and Social media. Together we will explore the autumnal gems of the Lötschental and Arolla valley and hike to alpine lakes surrounded by golden larches. We will try to make usage of interesting weather conditions and spend most of our time outside.

The workshop will take place in the canton of Valais, starting at the Blatten Lötschen Dorf Bus station, where we pick you up at 10:30 and make a welcome with coffee and croissants in our hotel. There we can also check in and prepare our camera bags. Before we are going to shoot sunset, we will cover the basics of the cameras and their settings. On the following Day we are taking you and our Volvos for a ride and explore our next valley and hotel, situated in Arolla. We are going on another small sunset hike and shoot. Back in the hotel, great food and comfort will be waiting for you after all the hard work. On the last day we will have an early breakfast and head out to another glacier valley close by. From there we will finish the workshop at Sion Train Station where you can take the train back home. For most of you, there is also space to travel back home with us and our Volvos.

We are super excited to create an unforgettable experience together and can`t wait to meet you in beautiful Valais.

    Frequently asked questions

What level of photography is required?

The workshop is open to all levels of experience. The only thing we ask is that you bring passion, energy and the drive to be out in the field every day no matter what the weather is like.

    What should I bring?

We will send out a clothing list before the trip. We recommend that you layer up! Bring comfortable clothes for sunny days and layers for when it’s colder such as in the morning and evening. A rain jacket, preferably Gore-tex and a wool underlayer will help when shooting after sunset. Merino socks and hiking boots are your best friend. As the saying goes “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”. Temperatures during the day could hit over 20 degrees Celsius and on an evening in the mountains approach 0 degrees Celsius.

What are the required fitness conditions?

During this workshop we will have to carry the camera equipment as well as clothes, food and water for smaller hikes. It should be doable for all fitness levels as we can plan enough time and adapt the route.

    Can I bring a drone?

Of course! Please only use your drone where it is allowed to do so. We would recommend bringing a DJI Mavic sized drone to give you a smooth travel experience. If you are interested we can show you the basics of aerial photo- and videography.
